Neowise Comet

Got out of LA for a little while to see the Neowise Comet that is now visible. Won’t be around for another 7000 years or so, so thought I better go check it out. HA. Went out to a friends studio property near Mojave, CA.called The Ultimate Graveyard. Great place for filming, and for getting shots of the nights sky with minimal noise pollution.

Around 9:15PM with the sun low enough, there it was seemingly out of nowhere, its tail faint and barely visible, but enough that you could make it out in the West/Northwest sky. It was eerily quiet save for the strong winds typical of the high desert. But the comet flying billions of light years from Earth, stood majestically still, your mind convinced you can hear its vapor trails whistling through space.

I got a few pics with my 24-70 and 70-200mm lenses. Then concentrated on a few of the Milky Way, which is there practically every night, if not taken for granted. Looking up at its gazillion stars makes one realize how fortunate we are to be here, and how insignificant we are to the rest of the cosmos. Surely there is some life forms looking at us thinking the same thing.

Got a few pics of the Milky Way and really wished I had a wider lens. It’s so massive, my widest lens got such a small part of it. But that will have to be for another time.
